Dear Jim and Judy,

Let me start off by saying congratu-freakin-lations! I can’t imagine doing anything in my life for 40 years (other than breathing and eating) and look at y’all, making marriage look easy. :) 

You two have been such an inspiration to so many, myself included. There was never a time that I did not feel welcomed in your home and in your family. Growing up a young, gay isn’t easy, doing it in Bountiful made it feel impossible at times. I couldn’t have gotten through it without the two of you and your amazing children. You guys have never made me feel like an outsider or feel ashamed of who I am. Ever. That is something I value so highly and will never be able to repay you for.

Thank you for the years of friendship and love. Thank you for showing me that marriage can last and that it is worth the work. Thank you for raising three smart, kind, generous, loving and exceptional children. Thank you for teaching me all of those things too. I know how proud you must be of all of your kids, I hope that I make you proud as well.

Here’s to 40 more!
